What types of ostomy bags does Carbou offer?
Carbou offers both one-piece and two-piece ostomy systems.
Our products cover colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy needs, designed for comfort, secure adhesion, and easy use at home.
How do I choose between a one-piece and two-piece system?
It depends on your daily needs and skin condition.
- One-piece: simple, lightweight, ideal for active users or those who prefer fewer steps.
- Two-piece: allows you to change the pouch without removing the baseplate — gentler on sensitive skin.
If you’re not sure which one fits you better, our care team can help you decide:

How do I measure my stoma?
To get the best fit and prevent leaks, it’s important to measure your stoma before applying a new skin barrier. Carbou includes a measuring guide in every cut-to-fit ostomy pouch box, so you can easily check your size at home.
During the first 6–8 weeks after surgery, your stoma will gradually change shape and size, so be sure to measure it every time you change your barrier. Once the size becomes stable, you can measure periodically to ensure continued accuracy.
To measure:
- Gently place the measuring guide over your stoma.
- Choose the opening that fits closely around the stoma without touching it.
- Use that size to cut your skin barrier for a snug, comfortable seal.

If you’re unsure which size is correct or notice frequent leaks or skin irritation, reach out to your ostomy nurse for guidance.
How do I cut my skin barriers?
To cut your skin barrier correctly, start by measuring your stoma with the measuring guide included in every Carbou cut-to-fit pouch box. Once you know the size, place the guide on the barrier and trace the opening.
Using small curved scissors, carefully cut along the line you traced. Avoid cutting past the printed guideline on the release liner. The opening should match your stoma closely—snug enough so that no skin is exposed between the barrier and the stoma. This helps prevent leaks and reduces the risk of skin irritation.
After cutting, double-check the fit before applying the barrier. If you’re using accessories like barrier rings or paste, apply them after confirming the opening size.

Can I use Carbou barrier rings or strips with other brands'baseplates?
Yes. Carbou barrier rings, strips, and wipes are compatible with most major ostomy brands.
They help seal gaps, prevent leakage, and improve skin comfort regardless of the pouch brand you use.
Are Carbou products latex-free and safe for sensitive skin?
Absolutely. All Carbou ostomy and skin-care products are latex-free, hypoallergenic, and made with medical-grade materials.
They’re suitable for sensitive or fragile skin, providing gentle protection and lasting comfort.
How long can I wear an ostomy pouch before changing it?
Most people change their pouch every 1–3 days, depending on skin condition, output type, and activity level.
If you notice irritation, odor, or weakened adhesion, replace it sooner.
Always clean and dry the skin before applying a new pouch for best results.
What do I do when I experience skin irritation and/or leakage?
Skin irritation and leakage are common challenges for ostomy users, but they can often be improved with a few adjustments. Here are practical steps you can take:
1. Check the fit of your skin barrier or wafer
A poor fit is the most common cause of leakage. Make sure the opening closely matches the size and shape of your stoma. If your stoma has changed size, re-measure it regularly.
2. Ensure the skin is clean and completely dry
Moisture, lotions, oils, and soap residue can prevent adhesion. Gently clean the skin and let it fully dry before applying a new barrier.
3. Use support products if needed
Barrier rings, seals, paste, or film dressings can help fill skin folds, prevent gaps, and improve the overall seal.
4. Address skin irritation early
Redness, itching, or soreness may indicate adhesive stress or early peristomal dermatitis. Remove your pouch gently, avoid aggressive scrubbing, and consider using skin barrier wipes or spray for protection.
5. Review wear time
If your pouching system is leaking before the expected wear time, you may need a different style—such as convex barriers, extended-wear adhesives, or a two-piece system.
6. Contact us for personalized guidance
Share your situation, and we’ll help identify possible solutions that match your stoma type and skin needs.
How can I avoid peristomal skin issues?
Keeping the skin around your stoma healthy is essential for long-term comfort. Here are evidence-based ways to prevent peristomal skin problems:
1. Make sure your pouching system fits correctly
A good seal prevents effluent from contacting your skin. Re-measure your stoma regularly, especially in the first 6–8 weeks after surgery.
2. Keep the skin dry and residue-free
Moisture, sweat, or leftover soap can weaken adhesion. Use gentle cleansing (water only), pat the skin dry, and avoid oily products.
3. Use barrier products when needed
Skin barrier sprays, wipes, or protective films create a protective layer between your skin and adhesives. Rings and paste can help smooth skin folds and reduce leakage risk.
4. Trim hair around the stoma
Excess hair can interfere with adhesion and cause discomfort during removal. Use a safety trimmer—not a razor—to avoid micro-cuts.
5. Follow a consistent wear-and-change routine
Regular changes prevent buildup of moisture and reduce the chance of skin breakdown. Adjust frequency based on your stoma output and lifestyle.
6. Watch for early signs of irritation
Mild redness or itching can worsen quickly. Address changes early by reviewing your product fit and routine.
7. Reach out for personalized product advice
Our team can recommend products and troubleshooting tips based on your stoma type, skin condition, and lifestyle.
Should I use any ostomy accessories? If so, how do I use them?
Ostomy accessories aren’t “must-use” items, but they can make your daily care easier, safer, and more comfortable—especially if you’re experiencing leakage, uneven skin, irritation, or need extra support. Each accessory is designed for a specific purpose, and you only need to use the ones that match your situation.
Here’s a quick guide to help you understand what might be helpful:
- Barrier rings – Help fill uneven skin folds and create a better seal to reduce leakage.
- Convex barrier rings – Provide gentle pressure for flush or retracted stomas to improve fit.
- Skin barrier paste – Smooths small gaps and enhances the seal around the stoma.
- Stoma powder – Used only on broken or weepy skin to absorb moisture and protect the area.
- Skin protective spray or wipes – Create a protective layer to reduce irritation.
- Ostomy belts – Add extra support and help keep your pouching system secure.
- Adhesive spray or remover – Helps with applying or gently removing the barrier.
If you're not sure what you need, start by identifying your main issue—leakage, irritation, uneven skin, reduced adhesion, etc. Then match the accessory to the problem. And remember, if your skin is irritated or you’re experiencing persistent leakage, consulting a stoma nurse is always a good choice.
